A Carbon Dioxide (CO_2) flooding system is a fixed fire suppression installation designed to protect high-risk areas where water-based systems would be damaging or ineffective. It works by “flooding” an enclosed space with a high concentration of CO_2 gas to displace oxygen and extinguish flames through a combination of oxygen deprivation and cooling.
How the System Works:
Detection: Smoke, heat, or flame detectors sense a fire and send a signal to the control panel.
Alarm & Delay: Audible and visual alarms are activated, followed by a mandatory time delay (typically 20–60 seconds) to allow personnel to evacuate before gas release.
Isolation: The control panel shuts down ventilation fans and closes fire dampers to prevent CO₂ from escaping the protected area.
Discharge: CO₂ is released from storage cylinders, flows through piping, and is discharged via specialized nozzles to fill the entire protected space.
